Welcome to the Introduction to Powers. Here you will learn how powers work beyond just the normal use of them. Much like everything, powers have a varying amount of strength for each person. In other words, one may be able to create a fire sword from their pyrokinesis while another can only summon a small candle fire. The reason for this is not only years of practice, but simple magical ability the person possesses over all.
At Character Creation
At creation, things are a bit different than anything else. First off, some races automatically have their own powers. These powers are automatically a Strong level due to them being apart of them. Any power after this is going to be a Normal level. So if you were a Mage, your Magic would be Somewhat Strong and than a power you got in addition would be Normal. However, you can use your additional powers to level the powers you already have instead of getting a new power. So a Mage with Magic of Somewhat Strong can use a single power to get Magic from Somewhat Strong to Strong. This will use up one of their additional powers bringing them down to 2 powers from their original 3. You can go as high as you desire, as long as you have enough powers to get the next level. However, going from Very Strong to Mastery at creation costs 2 power points rather than just 1. Example;
Race; Mage
Powers; Magic (Strong) [The normal level of a Mage's Magic], Telekinesis (Normal) [1 power used to get Telekinesis], Telepathy (Strong) [1 power used to get Telepathy, another used to level Telepathy from Normal to Strong.]
Here are the levels of Power;
- Fixed; This level is not truly a level, but rather a statement saying, it has not level. Fixed powers are never strong, weak, or normal, but rather the same for any and every person who has it.
- Very Weak; These are often new abilities your character is learning. They are erratic and hard for the user to control. Often causing more trouble than good for some time.
- Somewhat Weak; At this level, the user has enough grasp on their power to keep it from being erratic, but cannot truly control it yet.
- Weak; Here, the user knows the basics of how to use and control the power, but still requires training in understanding it.
- Normal; The power can function with great control and be used for basic desires, such as healing a deep cut or creating a flamethrower from your hand.
- Strong; With practice the user can have the ability to turn powers of others against them, but only if the power itself is equal or weaker than their own. That is acquired at this level.
- Somewhat Strong; Basic tasks are now very simple and can be done with your eyes closed and you now can use your power in more difficult ways such as Summoning a demon from the Underworld or Dominating the mind of a Novice Mage.
- Very Strong; At this level, the user tends to feel quite powerful as they can use their power nearly any way they desire and few can match their strength.
- Mastery; This is the highest level anyone can reach and requires many years of practice, but at this level, anything truly is possible.
Training and Gaining Powers
Acquiring new powers is often times rare and very difficult, but it can be done. However, when a power is gained, it is automatically Very Weak unless gained by a Mage in which case it is only Somewhat Weak. Some powers can be trained such as Chi, Magic, and Flight (flight often times requiring another power to use for it or having wings to gain it). These powers must be gained through normal role-playing. In other words, your character must practice at them in role-play by reading magic books or meditating. You must also speak to a staff member so we know what your goal is and may require you to send us every post you have your character training in that task. At that point, we will decide when you gain that power.
The other powers, that cannot be trained to gain, are acquired by character development. We do allow you to choose what power you would want, but we, the staff, are also the ones who say when it comes into play. You must also understand that powers can go missing if abused, be the power new or old.
True Sight
Now, having the power True Sight means you see everything for what it really is. It doesn't matter how powerful the demon or angel is, if you have True Sight as a power, you will see them as they should be. Meaning you will know what they look like, even when they are disguised as someone, or something, else. It would be as if they have a ghost of what they are pretending to be around them, but you can see through that facade.
Also, any Angel, Demon, or magically inclined human who don't have True Sight, often still know if they are speaking to a supernatural. HOWEVER, they would not know much more beyond that. Meaning if Merlin were talking to Lucifer when she's on Earth, he would not be able to know Lucifer is a demon unless she reveals herself as one. Though, Demons always know other Demons and Angels always know other Angels, sadly humans cannot tell the difference between each other.
